Nepali Characters
Certain pages in this website may show characters (नेपाल) other than English. In those portions of the site, such as the study guides, you will need to be able to read Nepali in order to understand the content. Wikipedia has an excellent entry on Nepal and its history.
Nepali Unicode
This site utilizes the nepali unicode character set which is in essense the Sanskrit Unicode characterset. Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya, the developers of this characterset and other products, has a site devoted to Nepali Unicode.
Nepali Fonts
There are several different fonts (the look of the character set) associated with Nepali Unicode which is also available from Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya and the South Asian Language and Resource Center from the University of Chicago. This site utilizes the Kalimati font as its default, but gracefully degrades to Mangal in the absence of this and other fonts.
Browser Support
The latest release of the most popular browsers are able to display the Nepali character set properly. If you are experiencing trouble with your current browser and do NOT have the lastest version, we suggest that you upgrade your browser. This site has been tested on Firefox 1.5+, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+, Opera 8.5+.
Please note that previous versions of Firefox (1.05) may not display Nepali unicode characters properly. You may want to consider upgrading to the latest version of Firefox if you have problems with the Nepali font.
